Date: October 14th 2025, 19:00 JST
Location: BioClub Tokyo & Zoom

In this talk Nirit will present some of her projects and research, and discuss how she uses experiential design and playful interactions to engage audiences with these themes. She will talk about her current work in progress and research were she is developing a concept of a network of Bio-Digital Gardens, which combines computational elements and living moss - a responsive plant that gives qualitative visual feedback to changes in its environment in real-time. She will also give some insight into a workshop she'll conduct at BioClub on October 18th (Saturday).

Nirit Binyamini Ben-Meir

Nirit Binyamini Ben-Meir is an artist, designer and researcher based in London. Her work explores the interconnection between society, technology, and ecology, researching how the integration of living plants into digital interactions may influence people's engagement with ecological stewardship. Her exploration focuses on the potential of using human-computer-plant interactions to identify current weak points in pro-environmental behaviour and care for ecosystems, as well as influence people's attitudes through tangible feedback, bridging time-scale gaps, generating a sense of responsibility, and shaping domestic cultures of plant care.

Nirit is currently pursuing a PhD within the EPSRC-funded Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence program at Queen Mary University of London. She also teaches as an Associate Lecturer in Information Experience Design at the Royal College of Art.

Her practice spans research, workshops, and participatory installations developed in collaboration with galleries and institutions such as the South London Botanical Institute, the Horniman Museum and Gardens, and, most recently, the Information Lab at the University of Tokyo.

Nirit’s research has been recognized with a grant from the Great British Sasakawa Foundation (2025). Her work has received multiple nominations and awards, including the YouFab Global Creative Award and a Panasonic Award nomination (Tokyo, 2021), as well as Best Paper at DIS 2025. Her projects and workshops have been presented at venues including London Design Week, Samsung KX King’s Cross, The Crypt Gallery, and Copeland Park Gallery.
